Lean Quality Improvement Model
The lean model is a way of thinking that stresses creating needed values with optimization or resources. Rotter et al. (2019) note that the model creates a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on perfecting values and producing with no resource wastage. The model’s primary focus is the customer and the patient in healthcare. The model has five stages, and the first is “specify a value.” In this stage, the managers define and specify a value from the patient’s perspective.
The second step is a map that identifies the value stream and sets all actions required to produce a specific product. The stage requires the managers to create a map comparing the value stream’s current and future state (Ahn et al., 2021). Activities in this stage entail every activity in services or product provision, from identification to providing the final product/service to the patient. The third stage, pull, entails allowing the customer to select services and products as needed without a forecast.
