  1. Assess your ability to gather information on your client within the iHuman Virtual Patient Encounter.
    1. Use the iHuman score sheet to review your results for the focused health history and focused physical exam. How did you perform?

For the history section I scored an 89% which I feel is not bad, I did miss one question that was required. I believe that the layout of the questions should be better. For the physical section I scored an 83%, I feel as though I could have done a little better. I hope as I continue through these ihuman assignments I can better gauge accuracy on these assessments.

  • What did you find easy or difficult about navigating through the focused health history and focused physical exam sections of the case?

I think that the layout could be better for the history section, some of the questions I would initially ask are all the way at the bottom. For the physical assessment portion, I feel the layout is better. It is organized in order; you basically just have to figure out which steps you feel is necessary for that patient encounter.

3.    Describe one strategy to improve your performance in the next Virtual Patient Encounter.

One strategy to improve my results for the next patient would be to start more on the particular systems that the patient has complaints about and then branch off to systems I feel would be affected by this problem.

The layout for this program is very user-friendly. I used this program in my BSN physical assessment course, so I was versed on how to use this application.

    • feel as though I documented all the required components. As I was going through the history and physical exam section I charted my findings as I went through which seemed to help me not forget key points.

One strategy that could improve my performance is not moving ahead until I reevaluate my finding and documentation to make sure they reflect each other. I believe this is important so you know you are documenting relevant information.

    • What did you find easy or difficult about navigating through the key findings and organization section of the case?
      • feel like this application made it simple to document the key findings on the side as you went through the physical assessment. This made it very easy to keep up with things that should be included in documentation.
    • How did your key findings compare with the expert’s  findings?
      • believe that my findings where not far off from the experts findings. Although I did not put that the patient had a sick roommate or a flu vaccine in my key findings, I did document that information in my problem statement. I mainly used the key findings for my objective information.

      • would use the current guidelines and practices and do more research on my findings  to help me determine the most appropriate treatment for the patient.
  • Assess your performance in creating and documenting a problem statement within the iHuman case.
    • What did you find easy or difficult about creating the problem statement?
      • felt that creating a problem statement was fairly easy to me. I am an ER nurse so I treated it as I do my triage note. Basically why did the patient come in to be seen and all the information they tell you and I added my objective information from the exam in there as well.
    • How did your problem statement compare with the expert’s response provided?

Our statements were very similar, I did not, however, add the exact temperature like the experts did. I feel that would be double charting and increase room for error since the vitals would be charted.

    • would make sure that my problem statement addresses everything important in the patient encounter included exam points that are negative.
  • Assess your performance in creating and documenting a management plan within the iHuman case.
    • What did you find easy or difficult about creating the management plan?
      • found it difficult to create this plan since the CDC recommended antiviral treatment but in this case was not warranted. I also thought the dosing for OTC medication was difficult due to there being so many different types of cough suppressant and different forms.
  • How did your management plan compare with the expert’s response provided?

The plans were very similar, I did use brand names for the otc medications instead of the generic. I feel it is easier to refer to medications to patients in this way because they generally know what you are referring to.

  • Describe one strategy to improve your performance in the next Virtual Patient Encounter.

I would put in my management plan more education on preventive care. It is important that patients know how to prevent illnesses if able. For example explaining the importance and benefits of getting the yearly flu vaccine to the patient in this encounter.
